Inaugural Foothills 50K Frenzy – Success!

THANK YOU to all the people who made the Inaugural Foothills 50K Frenzy a huge success! Runners, volunteers, sponsors, spectators – We could not have done it without the energy and support of so many people. Thank you all!

Thanks to Michael Lebowitz of Long Run Picture Company for being out there on the course taking photos. Michael has generously agreed to allow you to download all the hi-resolution photos you want at no cost – with his company watermark at the bottom. If you would like a photo without the watermark, he has priced them at a ridiculously low price. Click here for a link to the gallery. The password is 50K.

We were fortunate to have some super sponsors for this race, including two very special runners who were out there with you running the race: Wil Wood and Kevin Flynn. Wil Wood, owner of Great Harvest Bread Company, donated the aid station sandwiches. And, Kevin Flynn – Boise potter and artist extraordinaire – conceived and hand-crafted every single finisher mug as well as the overall and age group awards.

In addition to Wil and Kevin, so many other great sponsors stepped up to help make this event a success:

  • I hope you enjoy the most recent issue of Marathon & Beyond magazine – if you haven’t ever read M&B, take some time to read it – the articles are written BY runners for runners. They are also extending a great deal on subscriptions exclusively to Frenzy runners.
  • Both Russ Freestone and Suzie Lindburg are local and included great offers on body work (you might need some after Saturday).
  • Both Backcountry Bars and Scott’s Loaded Granola Bars are made here in Boise, and they are great for fueling your long runs.
  • You know those awesome sleeves in your packet? Local trail runners, Amber and Brian Nebeker at SignHype printed all those for us.

All our sponsors are terrific – the bottom of the page for a list of our sponsors with links to their websites.

Some of you may have dropped things at various aid stations. If you did, we have those items at the PULSE Running & Fitness Shop in Meridian. You might give Holly or Beth a call at the PULSE – 208-884-1141 – to see if it is there.

Huge thanks to Holly Finch and her whole gang at the PULSE for helping to make this race a reality.

Next year, the Foothills 50K Frenzy will be featured in the Idaho Trail Ultra Series. The mission of the Idaho Trail Ultra Series is to promote ultrarunning in the State of Idaho and encourage participation in Idaho’s finest trail ultramarathons. Go to the Idaho Trail Ultra Series website for more information.

Again, my sincere THANKS to you for coming out to run the Inaugural Foothills 50K Frenzy!

Jenny, I was really quite impressed with the inaugural Foothills Frenzy 50K that you put on here in the the Boise foothills on October 22nd. Such a wonderful opportunity for local experienced ultra runners and first time ultra runners alike, as well as drawing in many ultra runners from a far. This event was so well organized, it’s hard to believe this was the first year. The course was fantastic! So wonderful to be one of the very few events to take place on our beautiful Ridge to Rivers trail system!
Thank you for letting me have the opportunity to volunteer at an aid station. It was so much fun to see all the familiar faces of friends come through our aid station. Your race provided the opportunity for many aspiring ultra runners to complete their first ultra. It was so wonderful to see my 62 year old friend (a six time Boston marathoner) run and finish her first 50K (this was not only her first ultra, but also her first trail race). So exciting!!!
I got the chance to visit some of the other aid stations a long the course, and they were all so well organized, clean, efficient, and super helpful and encouraging as the runners came in.
I’m so excited about taking part in the Foothills Frenzy 50K next year as a runner!! As a trail runner and an aspiring ultra runner, I’m so grateful to have this race right here in Boise, Idaho!!
Thank you, and thanks to and all those who worked so hard to make this event come together.
    – Tina
